Meet April

Hi, my name is April. I am a wife and a mother of three children whom I have homeschooled for fifteen years. I have always loved learning alongside my kids! Theology, sailing, government, and economics are some of my favorite areas we’ve grown in, and I’ve seen how theology and sailing have actually helped me gain a deeper understanding of government and economics!

I believe that God, who created our world and universe, has established order, and the world operates on a fixed set of principles. We understand and respect some of these laws and principles without even thinking about them throughout the course of our day, such as Newton’s laws of motion in dealing with gravity.

Studying Natural Laws

Sailors encounter the Bernoulli principle in action when challenged to keep a harmonious balance between their vessel and the two worlds of wind and water. Respecting these invisible laws within nature is of critical importance when navigating a sailboat. In our modern age, we easily accept scientific laws within physics, chemistry, and biology. Yet, there is a whole set of laws we have dismissed – the Law of Nature, or Human Nature, as C.S. Lewis calls it in his book Mere Christianity – and the effects of not adhering to these laws run far deeper.

As a Christian myself, I believe that studying economics and government with natural laws as a foundation provides us with a powerful lens that has sadly been lost. Having a biblical understanding of man’s fallen nature and this natural moral order in the realm of government and economics helps us to understand how policies, legislation, and ideologies can navigate the course of a nation, of states, cities, families, and thus our life, liberty, and property.

Courses with a Biblical Lens

Government and economics can be quite a complex study, but they’re also fascinating! My desire is to journey alongside and help our younger generation understand these courses through a biblical lens and thus know how to make decisions for the betterment of those around them as well as recognize false ideas and understand their ill effects and consequences in our world. Our choices can help in either constructing a more harmonious, peaceful society or a more destructive, chaotic one.

Our Founding Fathers built our nation on profound principles, and sadly that foundation has been eroding. If we desire for our children and following generations to live in a society that allows them to create, build, and care for their families and loved ones to the best of their abilities, we must work towards creating a culture that values and respects everyone’s right to life, liberty, and property.
